Located in the first part of via Appia Antica, interesting road from an archeological and artistic point of view.
The building of Thermae was begun by Settimio Severo in 206 A. D.; they were opened in 217 A. D. by the emperor Caracalla. The Thermae could house 1.700 people at once in big baths of warm and cold waters. Very refined rooms, precious marbles, shining vaults, surrounded the pools and palaestras.
Still nowadays visitors are struck by the ruins of this ancient splendor.
